Europa League | Real Sociedad v Manchester United Match Preview, 19 Feb 2021

Team News

Previously ruled out of both legs, Mikel Oyarzabal made a miraclous recovery and played against Getafe at the weekend in a massive boost for the Spanish side.

Former Manchester United academy graduate Adnan Januzaj will look forward to facing his former side on Thursday, while United will also be all too familiar with Manchester City legend David Silva.

Off the back of his man of the match display at the weekend, ex-Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi will hope to continue here after recently recovering from a long-term injury.

21-year-old Alexander Isak has scored in five straight league matches.

Paul Pogba and Phil Jones are both ruled out for Manchester United on Thursday.

Dean Henderson and Eric Bailly will certainly return to the fold here. Alex Telles will hope to start as well.

Anthony Martial will likely be given a chance through the middle on Thursday, with Edinson Cavani rested.

Donny van de Beek has really struggled to impose himself in Bruno Fernandes' position and may benefit playing slightly deeper so he can see more of the ball.

Prediction

Real Sociedad have lost home advantage due to local travel restrictions, with this match instead taking place in Turin, Italy.

Real Sociedad appear to have come through a tricky four-week period and have lost only one of their last six matches and that was in extra-time.

Manchester United drop into the Europa League after making a real mess of their Champions League group campaign. Their last defeat away from home was their final European match back in December. They are unbeaten in eight since then (W4, D4).

Mikel Oyarzabal's availability is a huge boost for the home side and they should not be underestimated by United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side should fully expect two very close legs and it wouldn't be at all surprising if their European campaign ended at this stage of the competition.
